Security Manager
Overview

Afaria Security Manager for Windows with BeCrypt Protection is a full-disk encryption solution for laptop, desktop, and tablet computers.

Security Manager for Windows secures data by imposing strong (optionally two-factor) user authentication and by encrypting all the data stored on physical hard disks. Once the user has been authenticated, data is automatically decrypted and re-encrypted on the fly, as it is read from and written to disk. Because all data is automatically encrypted, users do not have to remember to save files to virtual drives or specific folders. Applications continue as normal and are unaware of the disk encryption taking place below. If, however, anyone attempts to access the hard drive directly, bypassing user authentication, the data is unintelligible.

Feature summary

Boot-time authentication

  • Enforced authentication requires the user to enter a password when the computer is started.

Full-disk encryption

  • All drives and data are fully encrypted.

Recovery after password failure

  • A challenge-response facility permits the user, with the assistance of the Afaria administrator, to regain access to a protected machine after having forgotten his or her password. Note that the recovery data is sensitive and should be handled accordingly.

Single Sign-On into Windows

  • Security Manager for Windows can simplify start up by setting its own password to the same value as the user's Windows password. This allows the user to log on to the machine and into Windows by entering a single password.

Supports Hibernation

  • Security Manager for Windows fully supports hibernation. The user must enter his or her Windows password when restarting the machine.

Easy to install

  • Afaria's software deployment tools automatically install and configure Security Manager for Windows based on your security policies.

Transparent to user

  • All data encryption is automatic and transparent to the user.

Low performance overhead

  • Encryption overhead is minimal with little or no noticeable impact on system performance.
