The merger followed a patent infringement lawsuit initiated by Padcom in 2003, and a jury verdict that found that NetMotion infringed upon Padcom patents. Post-merger, NetMotion Wireless remains the operating company, with Padcom, Inc. as the holding company and majority shareholder in NetMotion Wireless. As a result of its holdings in Padcom, Liberty Partners became the majority shareholder in the combined company.

NetMotion has a substantial portfolio of validated intellectual property, a large and rapidly growing customer base, and the backing of Liberty Partners, a private equity firm with more than $1 billion under management.
